Lunch & Learn

First Thursday Fashions

U-Club Tasting Society

Not only a Club within the Club, but the first, and original, University Club! The Lunch & Learn Club Colloquy has been meeting each  week since the first official gathering back in 1929. Organized as the State College Club, the new Faculty Club provided collegial meetings for its 175 members, who paid dues of $15.00 per year. Noon luncheons with an educational speaker were held every Wednesday, for the nominal price of 50 cents a person.

Today the lunches continue as the Tuesday Mingle Table,  meeting weekly and upholding the tradition of academic interchange, good food and fellowship. Discussion topics range from the historical or scientific, to challenging issues of contemporary politics, cutting edge research, or current events.

One of the longest running traditions at the University Club is our monthly First Thursday Fun & Fashions Luncheon. Members enjoy a fabulous buffet of delicious salads, entrées and desserts, while models stroll through the room table to table, presenting the latest fashions from a featured local retailer. The casual yet elegant style of the program allows the models to visit with the diners, describing the garments and answering questions.

The lunch and fashions are followed by a relaxing afternoon of bridge, with light refreshments and table prizes. No wonder this has been one of the most popular Clubs within the Club since the original First Thursday in 1971.

Whether you are a true oenophile, or simply enjoy fine wine and exquisite food, you can join other members who share your interest at one of the many activties of the University Club's Tasting Society.  Tapas tastings, micro-beer       tasting and brewing classes, healthy dining, and a wide-ranging variety of food & beverage related topics keep these events both lively and luscious. Preparation tips, techniques and recipes are often part of the program, while tasting always is!

The U-Club’s Gourmet Wine Dinners provide another tempting occasion to enjoy delicious dining. These world-class dinners provide an intimate evening of fabulous food, paired with the perfect wine as a complement to each course. Tasting Society members receive priority on making reservations for these very popular evenings, which are always a sell-out.

The University Club culinary team lends their talents to this lively and  hands-on program. The members of the Club Writer's Group gather monthly  to share discussion of their own works as well as examples from current publications and literature.
